6.22 Interstate Support Orders aetrahan Wed, 06/28/2023 - 16:02Interstate support (child and spousal) orders are governed by the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA), which lays out the basis for a court to have subject matter jurisdiction to enforce and modify support orders across state lines.1 The UIFSA attempts to limit modification jurisdiction to just one state at a time once there is an existing child support award issued.2 Note that while personal jurisdiction is not necessary in divorce and custody matters, support matters require it for full faith and credit.3
